The most capable professionals — the ones carrying the most complex portfolios, driving the most critical outcomes — are often the last people considered when senior roles become available.
Not because their work isn't strong. Because the way their value is being read in the rooms that determine career trajectories isn't matching the impact they are actually making.
I know this pattern from the inside.
I spent years working within the UN system — at UNICEF as a P3 and as a consultant with UNV — and I watched it play out repeatedly, across divisions and duty stations, across roles and regions. Highly competent people, doing genuinely important work, who were invisible in the conversations that shaped their careers.
Not because they lacked ability. Because they had never been equipped to communicate their value with the same rigour they brought to their technical work.
That gap — between the impact you are making and the weight your voice carries — is the space I work in.
